The English language is taught through many different means and methods, including whole class and small group instruction. Differentiated guided reading instruction is done on a daily basis, and students are given the opportunity to practice taught skills independently and through collaborative center activities. Students are assessed in five different areas, including written expression, reading and reading comprehension, grammar, spelling, and handwriting. Reading A-Z is a program that is used to measure students' reading level in English, and the complementary program Raz Kids is used by students to build their reading skills. The DRA is used by the Reading Specialist to target the needs of specific, remedial students.

Reading Room: Run by our Reading Specialists, the Reading Room is another resource means to support specific students in an effort to improve in their decoding and reading comprehension skills, and vocabulary knowledge through focused, small group guided reading lessons.
